Wednesday's Whimsy~My Crazy Life

Yep, just when I think I've got a handle on the things happening in my world, the fates send me in a new direction. I have come to accept that my life will always be a constantly changing, growing and discovering journey. This new path not only sends us in a different direction, it also brings family closer. And that is always a good thing to happen.

The past few weeks I've been going through all my craft supplies and tossing out or giving away the things I'm no longer using. Decluttering and compressing the amount of *stuff* I'm oh so good at hoarding. Ya know ... those "things" that you just know you are going to be needing one of these days. I've decided my favorite projects are centered around paper crafting and bead work. So, the sewing has gone into a tote to be stored and Tanya has been *loaned* the sewing machine and serger. Yes, I'll have to take the time to show her how both machines work, but she LOVES to sew and I'm just not interested in it as much these days.

I'm moving furniture around too. Cleaning out both the spare bedrooms, moving the desk and computer out of the master bedroom into the corner of the dining room. Last week I moved the main altar out of the "Craft" room into the living room, I decided it was time to be "Out & Proud" in all things. Yes, I DO live in a very conservative Christian state and even have doorknockers on a regular basis. Thankfully, I don't need to work outside the home and have no fear of being "outed" to my employer which for many would result in job loss. My neighbors are some of the best I've ever had and I swear they are at least a little hippie if they aren't Witch or Pagan.

The area where the computer had been in the master bedroom now holds the loveseat that was in the Craft room. I've made it into a sort of sanctuary type area, where I can get away from all the chaos that happens in our house on a regular basis. Now I have a place to sit other than on the bed and can read or write in my journal or just be quiet if needed. The furbabies love to snuggle there with me, so I'm also going to be getting a couple more blankets. One can never have too many blankets at any given time.

I'm going to be making this little corner of the living room into a reading nook. With the built-in bookshelves already in place and a light that isn't ideal, I'm adding the chair here and possibly a floor lamp if I can find one I like. Sometimes I'm too damn picky, but I've gotten over the "that will do for now" or the "that's fine" portion of my life. If I can't get what I want, I wait til I can find exactly what I "see". The Witchling's toys and books have been moved to a new area in the cabinets and shelves behind Papa's recliner. This corner with the shelves and the new reading area is also the corner where the Yule tree goes, so the chair will find a temporary home during the holidays each year, LOL!

I am sure by now you may be wondering why I'm making these changes. And it's an easy explanation. Within the next few weeks, the dynamics of my house are changing once again. My eldest daughter and grandchild will be moving from Maryland and living with Jimmy & I for the foreseeable future. Mylia has Chiari Malformation along with a host of other health related issues, and it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to get around. All of the friends they had when they moved to MD oh so many years ago have either moved out of the state or away from the area where Mylia and Chey live, so it was beyond difficult to rely on anyone for even a trip to the grocery. So, they are coming home, not back to Arizona where we all began, but here to North Carolina which is home for us at least for now.

I'm both nervous and excited about this change, we haven't spent much time together as adults, and I'm pretty sure there is going to be a learning period we will have to muddle through. But, we'll make it and I'll embrace the role my Momma left to me. I'll take care of my children the best that I can and teach them everything I know so that they, in turn, can wrap the mantle of the family matriarch around their shoulders and pass all those cherished family traditions down to the next generations that will come after.
